In the wake of the Democrats winning control of both houses of the U.S. Congress in the 2006 Midterm elections, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is urging Congress to act quickly to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform. In 2006, the Senate passed a Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill, S. 2611, which would have greatly expanded immigration benefits, and increased immigration enforcement. However, the Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives stymied that bill.
